What do dietary supplements provide?
In the colorful world of nutritional supplements, one promise screams louder than the next. "Helps against cancer", "Vital substances boost your immune system", "Brainpower - makes you a superbrain". This raises hopes and appeals to some, but for others it causes doubts and rejection. But what is there to such statements and who is right now?
The idea is ingenious, a small capsule a day and pain, serious illness and regular visits to the doctor are literally eaten. And all this without side effects, artificial substances and pollution of the environment.
The human mind is looking for solutions. Simple solutions that either produce lasting effects through a short effort, or they must be so uncomplicated for long-term use that the effort hardly matters. The fear of pain and illness lurks everywhere. People are affected themselves, the number of ailments is growing, and at the same time, reports of serious illnesses and their consequences are becoming more frequent among friends and family. It is perfectly logical that the idea of preventing all this with a single pill a day sounds incredibly tempting.
Dietary supplements are not miracle cures but still useful.
Vitamins, minerals and plant substances are often enough celebrated as live hack and praised as panacea. The question of the justification of these statements is actually quite simple: dietary supplements are not miracle cures and yet they can help. They are food and why and when they are useful and effective, we will now explain in more detail.
The body has a lot of mechanisms that serve the defense. At the same time, it is an ingenious construct in terms of building, remodeling and repair. A good and impressive example is the process that follows a skin injury. After a brief moment of bleeding, mechanisms are immediately activated that ensure that the wound is closed. Under this natural plaster, the body works at full speed to form new skin again. The organism transports necessary substances to the injury via the blood and builds new cells. If germs have penetrated through the injury, the body's own defenses jump in and make them harmless on the spot before they can penetrate deeper into the organism and cause more severe damage.
The human body is an ingenious machine
The whole thing happens without us having to intervene, influence or set this process in motion ourselves. Just as on the surface of the body, these processes also take place inside. The human organism is an ingenious machine that, due to its complex construction plan, runs through a perfectly coordinated interplay of many small individual mechanisms. If one of these processes does not run as it should, the body automatically chooses alternative ways to avoid major disruptions and does everything to restore the correct sequence.
All these processes are controlled and supported by so-called neurotransmitters (= messenger substances), enzymes and other important substances. Many of these substances have a short life span and have to be produced again and again by the body.
In addition to the repair and maintenance of existing structures, one of the tasks of the organism is therefore also to produce the necessary messenger substances and also substances for energy production and detoxification again and again.
The organism needs important building materials
And to produce something, of course, you need building material. This building material is in the food. Every food has a different composition and contains more of one substance and less of another. That is why it is so important to eat a varied diet. Because this creates an appropriate balanced profile over several days and the body gets what it needs.
When the body reaches its limits
That is the ideal case. However, everyday life often looks different. Packed with appointments, there is usually little time for the conscious selection of foods, preparation and varied nutrition. Consequently, people often resort to the same or similar foods or even to highly processed foods. In exceptional cases this is fine, but in the long run this can create gaps in the nutrient profile. Sooner or later, the body lacks certain building materials and the processes that depend on them can no longer run according to plan.
But it's not dietary habits alone that can throw the nutrient balance into disarray. There are other points that can lead to an undersupply and thus to a deficiency in the supply of nutrients.
Intensive physical stress
Taking medication
Illness
Smoking
Environmental stress
Unbalanced diet
Intake disorders / digestive disorders
Genetic predisposition
Intolerances
Specific diet
Increased need
Overload / stress
If one of these points persists over a longer period of time or if several of them overlap, a pronounced deficiency can occur that shows clearly noticeable effects. The exact nature of these effects depends on the extent and type of deficiency. The exact supply status can be determined by a blood test. With this information, targeted and increased intake of the missing nutrients can be easily implemented. Ideally, however, one should not let it get that far in the first place.
Ways to specifically prevent nutrient deficiencies
This means that if you are aware that you are currently living in a phase in which certain nutrients or nutrient groups are lacking or are more heavily consumed, it makes sense to think about how to achieve a balanced diet. In addition to the conscious selection of appropriate foods that are rich in these nutrients, targeted dietary supplements are a second possibility.
Because often, despite the best intentions, it does not work out in the long run with the optimal diet, especially in stressful phases of life.
A good example is someone who consumes too little vitamin C. This antioxidant is found in many fruits and vegetables, but is somewhat sensitive to heat and storage. For a good supply, fresh and ideally raw fruits and vegetables must be on the menu daily. Knowing that vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system, the motivation to consciously increase the daily menu is initially very high, especially in autumn and winter. Often, however, this resolution quickly falls victim to the demands of everyday life and one no longer takes the time for shopping and preparation.
A high-quality dietary supplement does not replace food, it is a food!
Just as I can choose to eat an apple, a pear or a banana, it is a perfectly legitimate choice to take a plant capsule with acerola powder, which naturally has a high vitamin C content, as a source of vitamins. The important thing here is to choose high-quality products that don't bring other problems along with all the good intentions.
The most important criteria here are an appropriate dosage, the absence of additives that are suspected of bringing negative health effects and a sustainable product packaging that does not harm the body or the environment.
What is your view on what nutritional supplementation brings?
No, we don't cure cancer. Nor do we turn you into the next Einstein. We enable you to honestly and fairly supplement your diet to give your body what it needs to function normally. Day after day. Micronutrients do not elevate your body to a new, unprecedented level. Nor do they cure disease. But they do help your body function as nature intended. Thus, they can correct or alleviate deficiencies and the resulting dysfunctions (=symptoms).
We want to explain to you how your body works and what function the individual substances have, so that you are able to find your individual optimal way. With us you will not find any lurid statements and exaggerated healing promises. But scientific statements that have been confirmed after independent verification. Because that's what we stand for: Fairness, transparency and 100% scientific orientation.
